Hello. I’ve been using the MG3 for a while now, and I’m having a lot of trouble with the dead notes I hear when lifting strings or moving around the neck. Could you give me a list of tips to make it easier to use and make it sound cleaner? Thanks!
What comes to my mind first is check your guitar setup. Action too low can bring unwanted notes. Verify if the neck relief is ok and no buzzing occours in the neck area that gives you dead notes. MG3 cannot solve those hardware problems on its own. I have three guitars and the one with the lowest action is the one that triggers false notes. I have to play lighter which delivers less sustain and in some cases ‘crazy notes’. Then you have to play with MG3 settings (INPUT and GATE). Just to avoid misunderstanding I call ‘false notes’ the one that you did not want to play but come from moving the left hand, palm mutes, legato and moving around the neck. I bought a dumper and at least the false notes from empty strings are gone. Then everybody has its own technique and needs to adapt to give to MG3 (which is BTW very well written and forgiving) the cleanest output possible. Using the bridge PU helps as there are less booming frequencies.
That is my own experience so take it with a grain of salt.
Hope it helps,
Pasha
i had an issue where lifting from a string would trigger a new note. the problem went away though, i think it may have been specific to a certain version of the beta. are you on the latest?
posting an audio snippet of the raw guitar is probably the easiest way to track down the issue.
do you have anything in the signal chain between the guitar and the audio interface?
there is also a midi filter which may help, i forget exactly what it is called though.
