i am one of those people who keeps his music systems off of the internet.
i guess though i should add ‘to the greatest extent possible’.
most of my preferred toys (neural dsp, soothe, ableton, korg) require an internet connection for authorization.
for additional security i image my ‘c’ drive a couple of times a year. i’ve just learned that ssd drives lose data when inactive, so i’ve started putting those images on ‘real’ hard drives.
maybe i can hang out this way long enough for microsoft to deliver a non-zombie-infected version of windows 11.
in any case, given the state of world software affairs, in my view jamo’s registration process is reasonable.
I mean no disrespect to JamO, he’s obviously a smart and talented fellow, that’s not in question… I would like the option of a license file. perhaps the server, instead of sending a password, could send a license file, or both.
There are many reasons why I might prefer an non-online music-based computer: malware & hacking, windows updates, signal interference, weather conditions, cable & port issues, router & modem malfunctions, power disruptions, component wear, incorrect network settings, ISP outages, network overload, PSTN/Legacy shutdowns, BGP misconfigurations…..
and what about not having an antivirus and firewall running the whole time (and their services) - awesome!
I was just making plans to create/configure an off-line music-only computer but now I have to re-think it because I want to use MG3 but wouldn’t be able to activate it
if someone wants to have a hybrid sorta online sorta not online computer thats cool and I would never ask them to change their way of thinking, but i’m not sure thats what I want - but I would like a license file please
I had a piece of software I wrote stolen so I understand your piracy concerns
As for the second job, I’m retired now so I feel ya!
I love MG2 and dread not having MG3 around
