I am having issues with the tracking of my bass guitar thru MG2. It’s picking up every single sound I am making, instead of just whichever note I am playing, and the volume level is inconsistent across the strings (at times, the note B1 is even played an octave higher).
If it helps in any way, here’s my set-up:
- Computer: MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), macOS Monterey (Ver. 12.6.3)
- Bass: Rickenbacker 4003
- DAW: Ableton Live 11 Standard
Would I need to compress the bass guitar audio signal significantly, or use Ableton’s MIDI plug-ins, to help reduce bleed between the notes I play? Would I need to consider alternative methods? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions to my issue.
How are you doing your muting? Palm mute? Foam mute? Not muting?
The B1 issue may be that MB is picking up the first harmonic and not the tonic.
I haven’t tried muting the strings, so I will give that a try.
I’m also considering if applying a low-pass filter on the audio signal, to reduce harmonics from being picked up easily, would also help in getting more accurate results.
I assume you mean Midi Bass not Midi Guitar. Midi Guitar is not made to be used with a bass.
Yes, I meant MIDI Bass, although I haven’t figured out how to get the standard bass tuning preset in MG2.
I’ve mainly had the same level problems with my old Olivo bass. Tweaking the MIDI VELOCITY Gain, Tone and Curve knobs alleviates the problem but not to my satisfaction. I also have MB generating notes an octave or a fifth higher than what I’M playing but not often. So I’m considering using string muting. What do you mean by standard bass tuning preset?
