My DAW is Ableton Live. I am using MG3 in two ways and sometimes mixing usage inside the same Live project : Using the MIDI OUT and routing the MIDI OUTPUT to another channel containing a VST/AU Plugin, Using an MG3 patch which already contains an instrument (VST/AU) and other stuff (Reverb, Delay, Cabinet).
What is the common sense advice here?
Use MIDI OUT or Use Patches with INSTRUMENT embedded?
Thanks
Pasha
PS : I am starting a new Album and I want kick start in the right way (I am on Apple M1 Studio base version)
I’d say as soon you want to record MIDI data, use 3rd party MIDI modifiers/plugins or want to realize some special signal routing, you go via the MIDI output and separate VST track(s).
If you just record, playback, bounce audio you can use the MG3 plugin and host VSTs.
This is how I do it but I belive at the end it’s everyone’s own choice and preference.
Edit: There is nothing “wrong” mixing both cases in one project!
I want to try to answer this but I’m scared I’ll end up typing for 4 hours…
Maybe it’s just best to put yourself in a mindset where you are hyperaware that this tool is very flexible and will let you approach musical problems in a myriad of ways. Results speak for themselves in music, right? Just do it
