Can I get any help with presets for MIDI Guitar 3? Examples inside

I have tried with the Wavestate native, and while the sounds are great, I can’t get the tracking to work anywhere near as well as the internal synths in Midi Guitar 3. Can someone share some presets that would be close using the internal MIDI Guitar instruments?

I’m afraid that you need to do the tweaking yourself since it depends on too many factors (equipment, playing style, etc.). But if you are satisfied with the response of the MG3 “onboard synths” you definitely should be able to find settings that work with your Wavestate VST as well.

I’m ok with some ballpark settings. It’s like any other preset for any gear. Yes getting the last 10% takes some tweaking but we can definitely get in the ballpark if someone (not me) understands and is skilled with the parameters

I’m not interested in spending any more time trying to get tracking working with wavestate. We spent way too much time in the forum and Facebook last year trying to get that usable.

You’ve set MG3’s MIDI to MIDI 1.0 and matched the pitch bend ranges in MG3 and Wavestate Native’s settings, right?

The first preset I opened in the Korg demo had bend range set at +2/-24 semitones (not gonna work for MG3) and was set to mono. I changed those to +/-2 semitones (in MG3, too), chose poly rather than mono (personal preference), upped the voice count and I was off to the races. See screenshots.

MG3 is tracking marvelously at default settings. The only setting I tweak is Gate, which is set at about 5 but adjustable to your specific instrument/interface behaviour. My Input Gain is at 0dB.

You should still be in the “ballpark” with these settings.

If you’re still having issues, you might need to share your settings for analysis.

And, it occurs to me that I didn’t answer your original question…because I would never use the internal instruments since there are many infinitely better third-party options. If you’re experiencing them as performing better than third-party synths, then I suspect that you’re doing something wrong.

it would be helpful if you provided more detail, both re: the tracking errors and the type of lines you’re playing when they occur (synth solos, chords, etc.).

are you getting missed notes? extra notes? incorrect notes? insufficient sustain?

all you’ve really said so far is that the tracking is better with mg3 native instruments.

I just loaded up all of the newer Korg VIs (wavestate, modstate, opsix, and multi/poly) and they all work as expected as long as you have MG3 set to MIDI 1.0 Legacy and a bend range of 2. Unfortunately all of the Korg VIs are not MPE and can take advantage of +_48 bend range and control per string. Hopefully at some point Korg will add MPE functionality to these synths. That being said, they are still very playable with MG3. As Kimyo said, it would be good to have more detailed information on what your exact issues are. There are many people here that will absolutely help get you sorted.
