Can MIDI Guitar 2 run on VMware virtual machine?

Hi guys, I have a question.
Can Midi GUITAR2 work in a virtual machine?
I created a virtual machine using VMware Workstation and I have 2 external sound cards, I installed separate drivers for the virtual machine, but it seems that Midi Guitar2 does not work in the virtual machine? Or am I missing something?
Hope the community can help >
Thank you.

Hi,

I can’t speak to MG2 but I tried to install MG3 in Windows 11 (arm) under Parallels Desktop 20 for macOS. It didn’t work as expected, possibly because of the arm architecture?

I’m not sure why you’d want to run it in a VM anyway. I was just curious about how the Windows version compared functionally to the macOS version so I gave it a try.

Please run MG2 or MG3 on a supported non-virtualized OS for proper function.

do you have any other music production software working in vmware? does vmware support asio?

i believe mg3 does load in wine, iirc another user had it working.

Dear friends.
I use MG2 on Windows 10 and it works fine. My computer has a strong configuration, so I want to create a virtual machine and use MG2 so that my friend and I can play virtual instruments together…this is my first time working with a virtual machine, so I have no experience with other music making software…
Thank you for your interest.

you could do this in a daw, with one track running mg2/3 for your friend and another one for you. this approach would be much much easier than trying to get mg2/3 running in a vm.

you’d each have individual control over as many instruments as your computer can support.

Thank you, I will practice what you instructed…hopefully. I am a newbie to MG2…

hi KIMYO,
I work in Cake Sonar bandlab…I try to run 2 Midi guitar2 from 2 different audio in ports so I have 2 Midi sources…
In Track ā€œcontrollerā€ I set Midi IN for it, and want to receive midi data of one MG2…as it always shows 2 MG2…I have attached the picture…I try to play but track ā€œcontrollerā€ receives both Midi data sources…
I hope you can help me, I am not qualified enough to understand all the ā€œoptionsā€ and ā€œpropertiesā€, hope there is something that can solve this problem better…
Thank you

I wonder if you can see this image? I hope you can.

it looks like different versions of sonar have different requirements. which version are you running?

if the limitation is due to your version of sonar, a workaround would be to install the mg3 beta.

then use mg2 for one track and mg3 for the other. not optimal, but doable.

another way to go - put the instruments directly inside the two different instances of mg2. this will avoid the need to route midi and allow you and your friend to play different instruments.

the beta is here:
https://www.jamorigin.com/beta/

I use the latest free version of SONAR, no membership registration.
There is this part I don’t understand: ā€œanother way to go - put the instruments directly inside the two different instances of mg2ā€
I used 2 different tracks and MG2 is a plugin in each track and I can’t use MG2 outside SONAR because I have to use ā€œRipchordā€ running in SONAR.
I will download MG3 and practice according to your instructions, I will report the results I get…
Thank you.

ripchord is a great plug in. you are correct that using it requires routing through sonar instead of inserting the plugin in mg2/3.

good luck with mg3. i think that using it in combination with mg2 will solve the issue, although it is not an elegant solution.

consider changing the title of the thread to ā€˜how to route midi in sonar’ or something similar. also ask the same question on the sonar forum.

I have Mg3 3.0.63.

I booted ā€œstandaloneā€ and it showed the audio interface setup panel…it didn’t recognize the M-audio Profire 610 even though this interface was running on the computer…and didn’t give any options…something was wrong…while the old Mg2 was running normally…
___And if I want to put it into SONAR, what should I do? MG3 beta is a .exe file. I searched in SONAR and couldn’t find Mg3 anywhere.
___I wrote this issue in this topic, because I think you understand the problem I’m concerned about here, and will help me solve it.
Thank you.

it looks like the profire doesn’t have win10 drivers? does it show up as an asio device in sonar?

in sonar you probably need to re-scan for new vst’s.

the mg3 installation will have put both vst64 and vst3 versions in one of the folders listed here:

I found MG tree (my keyboard is broken ??? no tree number) and ran 2 MG in test sonar…but still no go…sound source from 2 input audio ports not separate…with picture.
Just ask you…

i don’t know why sonar won’t cooperate.

however, it might work if you make sure not to use the ā€˜midi output’ module on the mg3 instance.

load an instrument in mg3, that’ll be for your friend.

for you, continue as before with ripchord seeing both the output from mg2 (your guitar) and mg3 (no data as long as midi output is not loaded).

another alternative: try the patchwork (standalone) demo:

i’m pretty sure i’ve used ripchord with it. probably better to start with two instances of mg3.

I will try all the things you guide…
and ask you: how can I run MG3 directly… Mg2 I can run standalone, how can I run MG3 standalone for testing?

mg3 standalone should be on your menu, under jam origin.

I have a file: MIDI Guitar 3.exe 16,142 kb
I created a shortcut on the screen. I ran this file, it appeared this message screen: attached image…
it does not recognize the audio interface profire is present, as it recognizes the driver of the audiolink interface which currently has no power source: OFF.
I tried to apply many times…but MG3 is nowhere to be seen…
Thank you.

I have opened MG3 . . .
Where can I find Help, Manual, Use guide ?
Help me more .
Thank you.

try installing the asio driver for the profire.

you can find it here:

mg2 and mg3 both require asio drivers under windows.

the manual for mg3 has not yet been released.

Hi Mikyo.

I always install and select ASIO driver when working.
I will download the Driver according to the link you gave. I will proceed to delete the old driver and install this new driver, because my old file may have had some errors when I downloaded it, many times, when reinstalling, it often has problems, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I will try with Profire this last time, if it doesn’t work smoothly, I will have to give it up…
I have run Standlone Mg3, I am learning from LoFiLeif’s instructions on Youtube, I try, for me, I find it a bit difficult !!!
Sincerely,
Thank you.
