Changing MIDI channels for output

Hi all,

New to the forum. I’ve been playing with MG3 beta, and I was wondering if there is any way to change which channels get sent out to the DAW. I understand in MPE mode, String 1 is Ch 7 and String 6 is channel 2. I need string 1 to be channel 1 through string 6/channel 6 as most of my guitar libraries that even have a Guitar controller mode need the strings sent as 1-6. I tried using MIDI 1.0 Multimode, but my MIDI monitor is still showing the channels as 2-7. Any way to change this?

Thanks!
Mark

You can do this in most DAWs but if yours doesn’t have a tool for this just search for a “midi channel mapper” VST.

Assuming you are using a GK pickup and it is not being used by any other application, you can simply rotate the PU 180 degrees. On all Roland/Boss synths, you can correct this rotation using the “Pickup Position” > “reversed” setting.

Just thinking about this (reversing the picking direction) I’m not sure that it’ll work with MG3. But, let’s just say it does, you’ll still need to remap the channels if your instrument is expecting channels 1-6. So it’s probably not a case of either/or but rather both.

Out of interest, I tried to do this yesterday (I didn’t reverse the pickup) running MIDI out from MG3 (MIDI GUITAR MINI Hex preset — standalone) into Bitwig 5.3 to modify the incoming MIDI data (using inbuilt devices only) and reroute it back out to an external device. It was relatively painless and worked perfectly compared to Live 12, which I couldn’t do it with.
