Hi, how are you? I’m using md3 on a DELL 5590 Core i7 1.9GHz 16GB RAM 512GB SSD w11 computer, with the Steinberg UR22C interface and Cubase 14pro. When I start playing, I hear a very annoying crunch with most virtual instruments. I have everything correct and I’ve tried 64, 128, 256… with all of them. What could it be?
try different usb ports with the ur22c, it should be connected directly and not via a hub.
on laptops power settings are often an issue. create a new high performance power plan. ensure that usb ports aren’t allowed to power down. disable wireless networking.
if your pc is hot windows is probably throttling your cpu.
latencymon may provide some useful information.
Have a look to the performance monitor (press F12) inside Cubase, but it sounds like that your CPU is overloaded.
Thank you very much for your help. For now, I’ve disabled CPU throttling and set it to High Performance Power Plan, but it’s still crunching. This week I’ll upgrade the RAM to 32GB to see if that fixes it. I realize I don’t have a high-end computer, but I hope I can work comfortably this way. Thanks.
it is possible that the ram will help, but it may be worth checking to see if you can run mg3 standalone with a single virtual instrument to see if you still get artifacts.
if yes, your issue is most likely cpu based. a fresh install of windows may help more than increasing the ram.
a blast or two of compressed air into the ventilation ports might also be useful.
In the end, setting the buffer size to 96 and disabling the CPU throttling settings again worked, and Halion 7’s instruments sound perfect. For now, I’m only using MG3 in Cubase 14. However, I’ve bought RAM to upgrade to 32GB. I think it will give me more peace of mind and performance. Thanks for your help!
