I want to purchase a Godin ACS Grand Concert Nylon-String Acoustic-Electric and use the 1/4” audio jack only to connect to midi guitar 2. Will this allow seperate instruments per string? I use the FLstudio DAW and a focusrite scarlett 2i2.
No, the guitar has no hexaphonic pickup installed that would allow string separation. MG2 can’t do this at all and to use MG3 Hex you need other hardware than you intend to buy.
Thank you so much for your quick reply. You just saved me $2000 dollars.
Will the Yamaha SLG200NW silent nylon electric work with MG2 / 3? Same setup just not per string instruments.
Edit. I perfer the neck width of classical guitar; that’s basicaly it. I’ve heard that the jamstik guitars do the per string instruments, but the necks are too narrow.
As a newb to the idea of hexaphonic pickups that allow per string intruments / routing, could you point me to a link (Youtube / Jamorigin) that points out the exact guitars / pickups that work with mg software? Electric, acoustic etc. 3rd party etc.
I’ve been searching for a couple of hours… what a mess of information.
If JamOrigin has a vid negating everything but what will absolutly work with the per string idea, that would help those like me new to the idea; what a time saver that would be.
Hello @JamO
Here some more information about the Godin ACS guitars. Theoretically possible but with the same amount of hardware needed for any other guitar.
Thank you for the clarification! I assumed a 13pin cable split into an audio interface would work would get you 6 channels of audio:
This system not only produces superb amplified sound, but also produces a hexaphonic output through a 13-pin connector enabling direct access to RolandTM GR-Series guitar synthesizers.
Yes, they do have some custom models with either a pre-installed GK3 or LR Baggs electronics, that allow the direct connection of a breakout cable or connection to a propriate synth.
You need to get the multiac Godin Nylon’s that have the 13-pin outs (As well as 1/4’”).
I have one and it plays great and it works great with MG3. You need a breakout box or some device like the GP-10 or SY-1000.
I did build a breakout box ages ago but you need or it takes up 6 channels on audio on your audio interface, too much for me!
I have a GP-10 and via USB this is easy to connect to MG3 and it works great,
The Godin is a lovely midi-controller it tracks well, one issue (not a problem as I have other midi enabled guitars) is that, being a nylon, string bends are not as pronounced, sometimes this is a good thing sometimes not.
Hi - for Godin you want the SA version (Synth Access). I have the Godin Multiac Nylon SA (at least ten years now) and it is by far my favorite guitar. You can use it with Roland gear via 13-pin, and I also have a breakout cable from separate-strings.uk.co that gives six mono inputs to my audio interface and DAW. I have the Focusrite 18i20 and feed the 6 channels into MG3-HEX with good results. I am working on a timing demonstration comparing MG3-HEX with a Roland GI-10 for MIDI input. I have used the Godin for many years with a Roland GR-1 for gigs.
