Great VST Instruments for to work with MG3

After having Midi Guitar 3 blow my mind, I immediately sold off my Boss GP-10. Now I want to replicate some of the types of sounds/textures that I was getting out of the GP-10’s OSC engine via VST instruments. There were a bunch of very airy guitar type patches, also ones that had a percussive (tambur/tabla/sitar) type. From a VST perspective, what’s out there that plays in that territory? I am not a programmer type, so best for me to find stuff that’s mostly premade. I’m interested in using my normal guitars sounds with the synth melding into it.

Why would you sell off your GP-10 when you need it (or something similar) to drive MG3 hex? :smiling_face_with_tear:

Isn’t the OSC engine effectively just a two-oscillators synthesizer? You should be able to get ballpark sounds with just about any soft synth in combination with effects and modulators.

Are there any specific presets you’re refering to?

I already found some great stuff via recommendations: https://labs.spitfireaudio.com/ and the previously mentioned SurgeXT. I’m waiting on Markus Duttlinger’s Hex Box to function as the Hex converter. The GP-10 takes up a lot of space, and if I’m using VST instrument it seems clunky to just use it as a media converter.

Please tell more about Markus Duttlinger’s Hex Box? Is it a HEX A/D converter with USB output? I currently use the GP-10, but if something smaller is out there, I’d love to see it!

@erol, it will be exactly as you described. I just ordered some prototypes and will receive them in mid/late December. If testing goes well and no further development is required, the HexBox should be available in Q2 2025.

The size will be around 75 x 85 x 30mm (L x W x H).
