I am trying to setup my guitard input via a Scarlett 2i4.
Guitar as an instrument input and Scarlett connect via USB with my compuer with the JamOrigin software installed. In the Audio interface section the Device is Focusrite USB Asio, which is one of the options, and as spunds feedback in the scarlet and via headphones, I have also selected the Focusrite USB as a MIDI Ouput in the Midi interface section.
I can’t get any sound in… Not sure what I am doing wrong?
Ultimately, the idea would be to input as a MIDI source into my Akai MPC Key 37, and also feeding in sound patches from Roland Integra 7. I have no idea how to do that, and basically I do not use a DAW, the MPC replaces the latter.
What Midi Guitar version are you using 2 or Beta 3? Do you have any instrument loaded in Midi Guitar? Is “Direct Monitoring” of your interface set correctly?
Oh yes sorry, I have an instrument selected, I had done that initially.
Nothing is showing under velocity…
Only way to connect PC and Scarlett is via USB, which I have done… Not sure how else I could possibly do it and why MD2 does not seem to be picking any input as it does detect the Focusrite …
Then your interface is not passing audio signals to MG2. Check the input settings again and the direct monitoring (turn it all the way right to “playback”).
I restarted the PC, and now it works… All setups and input were correct but PC had to be restarted apparently…Thanks v much all the same for your help!
As you clearly have great knowledge, I take the liberty to pick your brains a little more: How would you best connect the MP (key 37 so it has an integrated keyboard), to the Integra and the Focusrite and the MidiGuitar 2 (I know your previous message addresses most of it already but please bear with me) so that the end result is as follow:
I can play the guitar, either as …a guitar audio within the MPC AND as any Integra sound through the MIDI Guitar 2 and 2) get the audio directly from the MPC, so I can hedphones out directly from the MPC and be able to hear its native sounds, guitar audio recordings (again native to the MPC) and externzl Midui Guiar 2 MIDI signal using all Integra sounds, and additional voice/microphone audio recording via the Focusrite?
Still the suggested setup as per your previous message?
Overall goal is to mix different sources on the MPC to create projects with different tracks, combining audio recordings, MIDI via keyboard and Integra, Guitar MIDI via MD2 and Integra combined and native sounds within the MPC really…
Unfortunately, the connection did not work …It is an absolute headache actually, there is clearly something I am missing somewhere, but really don’t know how to solve this…
The MD2 part works (although I do get some lags), but the connection (as detailed in your message) between the Integra/Focusrite/MPC doesn’t. Basically I get the MPC native sound though the MPC, same for the Integra if I headphone into the Integra and same for the focusrite, but I was hoping all different sources could could be listened to and recorded via the MPC. There is the option to have the Integra and the MPC via usb, but one of the issue in my view, is that the sound output for the focusrite and the Integra has to go into the MPC input and this is an issue (MPC has 1 audio input + 1 audio Main). I can take photos etc or even do a short video if that might help to make more sense of the issue and connections but this is quite challenging, at least for me …! Many thanks !
Just a question, why don’t you use any host or DAW? The need of a computer is given by using MG2 already and it would be easy to do all your desired connections (and much more) in a DAW.
Cakewalk and Luna are free.
It’s for sure also possible to do it “analog” with y-splitter cables etc. but a bit odd these days.
i shouldn’t have jinxed things by talking about how great everything was going to be.
the fact that the mpc and integra both produce sounds is good, this means the midi cabling is correct.
the primary issue is the limitation of the mpc, having only two audio inputs. you probably don’t want to lose the stereo output of the integra or mg2/3, so that is our problem.
an audio mixer fixes this issue by allowing you to feed multiple stereo signals into the mpc. if you think you might add another external synth in the future, that is another argument for this approach.
if not, then you can (i think) run mono outs from the integra and mg into the mpc, assuming it allows you to pan the individual inputs. in this mode you’d hear everything.
but a $50 analog mixer is all you need. without a mixer you’re limited to mpc and mg only or mpc and integra only setups.
(i’ve never used one of those mpc’s, i am assuming it can play / record external and
internal sounds simultaneously)
