Hex pickups or midi guitar for "JamO MIDI GUITAR"? Is a good idea?

Hi guys, I need some help with this topic. I’ll try to be brief.

  1. Would a guitar with hex pickups improve the tracking and polyphony (chords, bending of several strings) of MIDI GUITAR 3 compared with a standard solid body electric guitar with analog pickups.

  2. In case that the answer to 1 is yes, there is yet a second step to solve for me:
One of my options is Godin multiac nylon(*) The other is equipping an hex pickup in one of my analog guitars. Which alternative would you recommend?

(*) provided that exists an interface to connect the Godin to JamO MIDI GUITAR without using a Roland synth in the middle?

Cheers and thanks!

before you go down the hex road i recommend exploring mg3 standard with your favorite guitar to determine if you find the chords/multistring bends problematic or trouble-free.

different players have different styles and gear, so only you can determine if mg3 doesn’t meet your needs.

on your godin, i believe the electronics can be battery powered, if so, then the only things you need are a cable and an audio interface.

the cable will set you back 90 pounds and if you rush (i think today may be the last day) sweetwater has the zoom l8 mixer for sale at $300. i think that’s the least expensive option i’ve seen for an audio interface with 8 inputs. it works well with the various versions of mg2/3.

Definitely start with MG3 jack-version. MG3 jack-version is surprisingly good at pickling up small fluctuations in pitch at all strings and even whammy. You can always upgrade to a hex setup later if needed.

Thank you very much. I will investigate the links you gave me.

I thought of the hex route because I was having some small issues, but after reading an older thread of someone complaining about MG3 not being able to track semidiminished chords, I saw your advise about intonation. So i changed the guitar I was using, and plugged in my best one (accurately intonated) and the issues are almost gone, and I say almost because not all vst instruments are equal, and sometimes are those who cause the issues, but MG3 is tracking well, amazingly well.

So my conclussion is that a good intonation is key and one of the first things to look at before getting frustrated about MG3.

Thank you!
