Hex piezo in 2025

Hello.

I’m investigating what are the current options for getting hex piezo signal from electric guitar.

The most popular seems to be Ghost saddles + hexpander preamp from Graphtech.

I’ve seen mentions of RMC pickups, but their site looks like it haven’t been updated in years and does not have prices.

Are there any other options worth considering?

the rmc’s are $300 and the rmc preamp is $380. they have a fair amount of instrument builders and top tier guitarists using their products, so i think they’ll be around to support anything you buy.

these look interesting:

i doubt you’ll have any regrets going with the graphtech, it’s an easy install and they work well with mg3hex.

i’ve read that piezo’s can be damaged by moisture, even by the amount produced by a sweaty hand. i’ve never experienced this though.

yes, graphtech looks like a safe bet with their various options of saddles.

Do you use hexpander only or with acousti-phonic?

just the hexpander.

the hexpander sums the 6 pickups to mono, if you put a jumper on pins 3 and 7 you get a pretty decent untreated acoustic sound. (but you lose the ability to send your mag pickup over the gk cable).

primova is a good source for gk cables, esp if you need a right angle connector:

And what do you use to provide power via 13pin to hexpander?
It’s not a Boss unit, is it?

i bought a battery system from bill bax/separatestrings.

it’s almost deviously simple, two 9v batteries, one for the +7, the other for the -7.

i got an 8-pack of nimh 9 volts for $32 so there’s always at least one set charged and ready if i forget to power things down.

a charged set lasts for a week or two in regular use.
