Hexaphonic Pickups for MG3: Recommendations & Workflow

Hello everyone! I’m new to the hexaphonic pickup world and I’m wondering which are the best hexaphonic pickups to use with MG3. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, and also what kind of workflow/devices you use in tandem with these pickups to achieve the best results.

you’ve got three types to choose from: the gk family, piezos (graphtech, rmc) and magnetics (uber, cycfi, subsix).

an issue which needs clarity is current and future mg3hex analog processing, in terms of fidelity. many of the earlier options filter the signal, which is helpful for midi note detection, but not desirable for analog processing.

i haven’t tried it, but in terms of cost the subsix plus an audio interface with 6 free inputs is probably the least expensive way to go unless you are considering buying a used gp-10 (but don’t do that if you are on mac).

in my view, the difference between the ‘best’ and the ‘worst’ is probably not very significant in terms of midi note detection, mg3hex is very flexible. but audiophiles may prefer one of the non-gk/non-piezo options.
