I am going to play tomorrow at church with strings sounds, synth lead and e piano. The tricky part however is the piano. Its really hard to get the piano to track without double triggers and random bleeps and bloops. Any advice? I really wanna do this tommorow
Im not near my computer, but for reference, my settings are this.
Noise gate = 18
Strike =80%
Midi 1.0 legacy
No bends
My guitar is setup correctly!( been testing this for three years)
Dynamics - compression is 50 percent
This is all i can remember on the top of my head
Im doing midi out with loop midi
I also recorded part of it and checked the midi data and noticed the bleeps and bloops are recorded as separate notes
And i was playing cleanly
Any other sounds i use are almost perfect. Just quick attack sounds like piano are the issue
What piano (VST) do you use?
I use zenology pro as my vst plugin. I tried most of the pianos and e piano and its the same result. Korg triton is a little more forgiving tho but the problem is still present. Korg M1 is just terrible with pianosš„²
Ok, i donāt have the pro version. I just have some (free) stock sounds and there are three pianos here
E-grand
AC Pop Piano 1
Metal Key
Do any of these vaugly resemble some of those you want to work with? I could see about settings.
Yeah ive used the E Grand. Thats one of them i have troubles with
For more reference, i use a semi hollowbody guitar bridge pickup. Guild Starfire Emerald green:). I find that bridge and middle pickup track equally good to meš (not with the piano but in general)
I donāt think your guitar is the problem. These sounds does not even resemble a piano. They are playable, but they donāt sound like a piano.
When you say STRIKE = 80, is that in the Zenology module?
I assume you are using the standard tracker (and not the HEX)?
Ohh no, the strike is in midi guitar 3. Because i dont want to pick too hard to cause mistriggers and unwanted harmonics
Yup standard indeed!
Yeah i guess its not real pianoā¦more like a synthesisā:joy:. But in anycase, i experience this problem with any quick attack sound. Even in keyscape i have this issue. Its actually more problematic in keyscape
So, I do agree with the idea of limiting the dynamic range for a more controlled output. I am not so sure, however, that increasing Strike is the best way to achieve this. I usually go for any dynamics/sensitivity setting in the actual instruments instead, and leave the settings in MG3 alone. First thing I would do when I run into a āhotā instrument (that overly reacts to input - double notes or mistriggers generally) is that I roll back on the Input gain in the MG3 tracker. I like to have it a 0db, and GATE at 10 (at the most) for an instrument that I intend to play with a variety of picking techniques (picking, hammering/pull off, legato, tapping etc).
But take a look at the Sens settings in Zenology to begin with instead of using STRIKE. The dynamics module before Zenology can help, but I would start messing with those setting afterhaving done all I can inside Zenology.
I know the Arturia Piano have a similar problem, and took a lot of finetuning to get even acceptable. But that is my suggestion for a place to start.
Alright. As soon as i am home from work, i will test this out
If i do all of this though, will the attack of the piano still be strong? Because i want it to still have decent attack. But i assume it should still have good attack since im just fine tuning the raw guitar sound
In any case i will report my findings:)
Okay so i tried everything you laid out and its the same:( idk why retriggering keeps happening. Its frustrating
Well i have to just hope for the best today. Hopefully the retriggering and the bleeps and bloops donāt happen
So, I donāt really get any retriggering (or bleeps and bloops) issues with Zenology (light) here, but the sound is very muffled and I donāt get the feeling of playing a piano.
If you have time, take a picture of the MG3 UI settings and the open Zenology instrument (so I can see the settings there).
I mean, using the standard MG3 tracker has some drawbacks compared to the HEX tracker if you are raking chords on your guitar with a piano at the other end, but I have been able to find pretty decent setting for pianos with both MG2 and standard MG3 as well. But it has always been a question about the instrument I was using for me.
(And I have been using VI Labs Ravenscroft 275 or Modartt Pianoteq primarily. )
