How to humanize a fretless bass (Amplesound ABJF or EBU)?

Hello. Trying to get notes to be very slightly and randomly out of pitch to add realism. I thought of using the wobbler from the modulators and wire it to the transposer Cents knob, but looks like MG3 beta latest version won’t let me do it. Maybe it is just something that is not supposed to be feasible.

Any way around it or other ideas ?

Thanks

Claude

The beauty of playing a midi guitar compare to a keyboard is that you do not need to “humanize” the notes, just enable pitch bend (I use +/- 4) and use your fingers.
I posted a clip with ABJF did you see it?

These two plugs also have some degree of humanization built into them, enable the random fret buzz and the “automatic hammer on” and “pull off” if you wish.

you could do a take using a slide and then merge the best bits together.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Electrofuzz, I don’t see your clip or where can I see it ?

Yes, I understand that you can go a long way with pitch bends, hammer on/off etc. Granted. My background with the idea is coming from using VSL Instrument Pro player with a contrabass where each repetitions or round robins can have it’s own detuning curve allowing you to simulate a player that is trying to get the note on pitch (you can simulate a really bad player too). I was really impressed with the difference say playing a note slightly flat once in a while can have on a performance.

Try this:

Use MODULATORS:

Pressure - for the input related to your playing a note. Place the MIN handle in a slignt angle above the MAX handle which gives you a pressure curve with a slight dip moving slowly towards the middle again (for each played note.

Wobble - to introduce the desired randomness. Use Depth to set the amount (of pitchyness you like)

MUX - a mix of two inputs: Pressure to A, and Wobble to B. and MUX to GLIDE and look for a relative equilibrium at twelve o’clock (in tune - GLIDE = 50)

And Ample Bass PB =2 (if that is what you are using)

Wow ! That works quite well ! Great idea combining the two modulators for added pitch variety. Learned something today for sure. Requires of course some fine tuning to get the most natural effect. Adding the usual finger pitch bend makes it sound really good. I will keep experimenting but very happy with this solution so far.

Thanks LoFiLeiF !

Thanks. Just watched it. Nice playing.

This composition was recorded using MG2 on a piccolo bass, a keyboard controller for some parts and tweaked with some edits I am not gonna lie. This was done a good year ago. ( I don’t know if links are allowed, not too used to post stuff on this forum).

Now MG3 is even better. I recently experimented using the MG3 legato module and set it at around 20ms and I have an expression pedal controlling the ABJF auto legato slide, hammer, off (set to CC11). Even more control ! I have another experiment going on using the Musikraken app to control articulations with body movements (phone attached to the body of the guitar).

Very cool video ElectroFuzz :metal:Thank you for sharing it. Nice to hear and see you play with Ample Bass Jaco Fretless.
