IK MODO Bass 2 with Midi Guitar 3 Hex

Downloaded demo of Modo Bass 2. Can’t get it to follow pitch bends. I set the bend range to 12 in Midi Guitar 3. I set the slide range as they call it in Modo Bass to match Midi Guitar at 12. But it acts like chromatic is turned on (jumps up a half step when I bend a string). I’m using the 13 pin output of a Godin Multiac Guitar, with Midi Guitar 3 tracker set to Hex and Loading Modo Bass 2 as a VST instrument. Anyone here using Modo Bass 2 ?

I don’t have a Hex guitar but make sure the BEND and SLIDE settings in MODOBASS are NOT set to off.

I have them both set to PW, and range of 12 is matched in Midi Guitar 3.

When you use Modo Bass 2 with midiguitar are you able to bend strings and have it track correctly? or does it do the chromatic thing?

Yes I can bend MODOBASS2 in MG3 with a regular guitar.

I don’t think that bending in MODO Bass 2 is possible unless with a keyboard and the pitch wheel.
All it does is jumping in semitone steps (not really bending). It also doesn’t matter whether bend is set to off or anything else in MODO Bass 2.

I would agree with most of you in here. IK Multimedia have created MODO Bass deliberately with incremental semitones movement for slides to “make it sound like you are sliding over frets”.

This makes sense for slides, but not for bends.

So it seems to me as all their fretted instruments are limited to this semitone bends, whereas if you try one of their fretless instruments you can get smooth bends over more than one semitone. (Still not the full slide range though, which is the only availible settings I have.

With a bend range = 24 I should be able to use a slide over my whole neck for a continous pitch bend, but I can’t. So Slide is a concept that IK use for portamento glissando betweeen two notes, and perhaps it is possible to use a full neck slide that way. But it is not helpful for us I am afraid.

This has nothing to do with MG2 or 3 though, or the Hex version. MODO Bass 2 in not an MPE instrument, and is not really the best match for any kind of real-time controller like MIDI Guitar because of its limitations in handling pitch bends.

Great response, appreciate the research. Sadly I’d agree not the best choice for Midi Guitar, but it could be if they had given that some consideration! Missing out on a good niche market.

It still can be. Seeing as how it is a Physiaclly Modeled instrument, they just need to get with the times and update it to an MPE instrument (being able to recieve pitch bend info for all strings individually per-note-per-channel) and fix that pitch bend implementation, and they are already at a great place. :+1:

Opps LoFiLeiF is right, MODOBass2 doesn’t really bend right.
Here is an idea, download the free plugin instead from Ample Sound called “Ample Bass P Lite II”.
Just be careful you might like it so much that you will purchase their paid version. (The Jaco fretless is my favorite).
