iLoc License Manager

I am posting this to find out if anyone else is having this issue. i have reported it to Jam Origin and they are looking into it, hopefully.

when using the LICENSE PAYMENT PORTAL from the plug in, not only is it rejecting bank and paypal transactions but I GOT AN ALERT SAYING THAT ILOC LICENSE MANAGER WAS REQUIRED to activate licenses.

I installed it but BEFORE pressing OK to complete it - it said “ONCE INSTALLED YOU MAY HAVE TO REACTIVATE ALL YOUR SOFTWARE LICENSES ON YOUR COMPUTER” so i closed it without pressing OK. the program still installed and placed a shortcut on the desktop. I IMMEDIATELY UNINSTALLED IT. so, now i hope it hasn’t corrupted all the activation codes for my professional music production and other software.

Jam Origin say it is not linked but there was NO link to this download in the years i have been using all my professional music software and VST plug-ins - other than through their license payment portal in the plug-in. please say if you have had this issue. it is a serious security issue

Assuming you downloaded from the official source (https://jam.live).

As I said, this message comes from one of your VST plugins that is somehow in contact with iLok. It’s not related to MG – MG just scans/opens your VST instruments/synth/effect plugins, and maybe one of these are . There is no such thing as a “license payment portal”. MG makes no internet access at all, other than the explicit one time authentication.

If you post a screenshot, we may be able to infer more information.

Hi, i tried to purchase your lifetime license from the UK. your system could not complete using my bank card. there is no issue with my bank or the card. also on your site i cannot find a license purchase page.

Also - i was prompted by your software to download iLoc License Manager software; so, i thought maybe this was a missing step to paying for my license. i installed it without completing by clicking ok, because it said that when installed I MAY NEED TO REACTIVATE ALL MY COMPUTER LICENSES! i closed the window without completing, without clicking the OK button. The software was still installed on my desktop. i immediately uninstalled it from my computer. This is in my opinion a criminal abuse of privacy. so why are you using this software? if this has messed up my dozens of license activations for my daily music production and other software, it will cause untold disruption, time and inconvenience. you need to review how you are distributing your software, as this is highly suspicious and a method hackers would use to gain control of computer software. it significantly makes me question whether i can trust you are safe to deal with and is something i‘d feel an obligation to warn people about.

iloc(k) has never been required for use with mg3 (to be best of my knowledge).

from where did you download the software?

This message comes from one of your VST plugins that is somehow in contact with iLok. It’s not related to MG – MG just scans/opens your hosted VST instruments/synth/effect plugins. It makes no internet access at all, other than the explicit one time authentication.

Regarding the payment issue, we seem to get more and more of this. I don’t have the information on why a payment is rejected. Did you try both the standard and the PayPal option? If that’s not working I will contact FastSpring (the payment provider) with your order reference to get an explanation.

thanks for the clarification, but this is incorrect. i have never had the iLoc download prompt separate to your license purchasing option with MG2 loaded as a plug-in. it has NEVER occurred with any other software and VST plugins and only occurred when using the payment portal on your software - so it is directly related to your online connections. you should check the security of your links.

i had the payment issue on both paypal and bank card. it could be that hackers are targeting or piggy-backing off your relatively new setup, or the payment method operators (i have never heard of previously). it is a severe security issue.

awesome software i really want to use extensively on my forthcoming albums and performances.

regards - Kendal

@soffpro1, Please do not spread misinformation about this or any other product on the forum.

It has already been explained to you that there is no connection between iLok (not iLoc) and MIDI Guitar. Only the MG plug-in scanner can trigger an iLok event and that has nothing to do with MG licensing.

Please provide the additional information requested rather than asserting further false claims.

in the interests of clarity - the last response from Vaultnaemsae on this thread was a response to this email: “I downloaded the free trial from your website. MG2 stable edition for Windows 64bit. had no other plug in open in the DAW. I have used most of my other plug-ins for years. I’ve done a complete rescan of all plug ins in ableton as recent as the past few days and it did not throw up the iLoc link.

Your payment pathway from the trial software interruption is the only pathway to payment with the company you use. It is not your payment gateway but your software uses it. That is a payment portal.”

this is NOT MISINFORMATION. you are not in a position to assert it is other software on my computer when it ONLY occurred using your software AND there is copious evidence that it did not occur as any part of my system or plug-in connections. your contradictions do not make sense. you say you do not have any on-line connections, which i understand, but the license purchasing portal for Fastspring does. so it is deflecting to deny any responsibility for this occurrence as YOU PROVIDE THE LINK..

simply denying it and the only payment method you use rejecting payments gives me no confidence in the competency of your expertise. these may not be attributed to your software but ONLY your software use triggers it. that is undeniable fact. you would do better to investigate it, when i have followed all your guidance. i have just returned home and taken the screenshots requested, but they do not show up the iLoc download prompt and this forum doesn’t seem to allow us to attach images. i installed MG2 about a week ago and started experimenting. i did a complete Ableton rescan as it did not show up in VST plug-ins, but re-routing them resolved that. but NOTHING triggered this iLoc download link since then until today. i am not an idiot or trouble causer so please do not treat me like one.i am seeking an explanation and resolution.

i have emailed screenshots requested. PLUS AMAZON PAYMENT FAILURE WITH FASTSPRING, seems none of their payment operations work. this could be losing you lots of customers you don’t know about.

@soffpro1, hopefully the screenshots will help the investigation.

Just to clarify my earlier point, I’m a forum moderator rather than part of the Jam Origin development/customer service. I wasn’t suggesting that you were deliberately posting incorrect information. The distinction I was trying to make is between what you’ve observed and the conclusion you’ve drawn from it.

You’ve consistently reported that the iLok prompt only appears when you’re working with MIDI Guitar — an observation that the screenshots may help explain.

Whether the cause is MIDI Guitar itself, another plug-in being scanned or loaded, or something else in the chain is exactly what still needs to be determined. At this stage it’s probably best not to jump to conclusions either way.

The FastSpring payment issue is separate. I’m sure that will be looked into as well, particularly if others have reported similar problems recently.

And if my earlier reply came across more bluntly than I intended, that certainly wasn’t my intention.

Thanks for the heads up with FastSpring. Is been happening more frequently recently. I will try to ask them what’s going in with you payment orders

About iLoc. I know what’s in the MG app/plug-ins and there is no iloc or other annoying security. The binary you use is 10 years old so please understand the issue is elsewhere

it’s possible than the MG plug-in is somehow sandboxed by the DAW and therefore cannot read the plug-ins data and therefore ask you to activate the plug-ins and one of them is iLoc’ed. Something like that.

@soffpro1 , is the spelling of iLok that comes up iLok or iLoc? If it is iLoc, then that is not the official iLok software and is probably some kind of hack. That would be interesting to know. I have been using MG2 and MG3 for years (on Mac) and have literally thousands of plugins on iLok and never seen MIDI Guitar software trigger anything iLok. Unless it was triggering time bombed or demo plugin licenses that are iLok based when rescanning the plugin folders. Hopefully you can get to the bottom of it and get everything licensed. MIDI Guitar is such an amazing product, it will be well worth the trouble to get there.

thank you for the clarification. that sounds reasonable. i’m not sure how you work out the binary i am using is 10 years old, unless you had remote access to my computer. the DAW is Ableton 11 suite and OS is latest updated Windows 11 pro 64 bit. so neither of those is 10 years old.

tbh i can’t recall but it may have been iLok License Manager just going off the desktop shortcut icon that i uninstalled immediately - thanks digimidi. yes i used advanced plug-ins and standalone software on my albums. i looked into and tried many midi-guitar setups in the 80’s when they first appeared in development, but since had little use for them. i am excited with this product, because i engineer many unique sounds and use field recordings as samples. unless it is a classic instrument that i want, i never use a preset or provided sound. this will enable me to play symphonic solo guitar performances. so, i know it must be working for a lot of musicians.

but what you suggest was my first instinct, that if it was iLoc, it could be a hacked connection on the FastSpring link. i don’t think a legitimate software would attempt to automatically disregard or discard existing licenses on an entire computer with multiple hard drives. that to me is what sounded illegal.

I believe the comment referred to the MG2 executable itself.

then that’s Jam Origin’s binary, not my computer’s. but it is the MG2 stable download for Windows, but i’d be shocked if that binary is 10 years old. i only heard of this software over a week ago. my processor hardware is an AMD Ryzen 7.

It’s quite a memorable logo. it would be useful to know which one it was (iLok/iLoc) to help determine if it is some kind of web-skimming attack.

It’s 10 years old. Better to hear about it late than never. MIDI Guitar 3 (not 10 years old) will knock your socks off.

i appreciate this. that does look familiar, but hackers are good at imitation too. i’m prepared to accept it could be iLok but cannot be conclusive - and because i installed then uninstalled, maybe the same thing will not recur. when uninstalling though, i had to search for a name that started with P (like Pearl or something, before the Ilok/c)

update: i did a search on how to remove it from windows and it says after uninstall to remove PACE AntiPiracy folder. also -THIS is the instruction i followed - “close all active programs, open the Control Panel or Settings to uninstall Pace License Support Win64, and then restart your computer.”
