With MG3, I don’t really need the patch up/down or volume controls, or the regular pickup/mix/hex control on the ordinary GK-3 pickup with external controller, I just need the output of the hex pickups. I’m thinking of opening up the GK-3 controller to get the control board, and installing that, the 13 pin connector, and the pickup on my guitar, as if it were a GK-3 kit, and discarding the rest. Has anyone ever done that? Am I likely to ruin the pickup?
Yes, I was supposing that I could harvest the 13 pin connector from the external unit, but I haven’t looked closely. Perhaps that wouldn’t work. The kit is only 120€, so it’s probably not worth destroying a functioning external unit as an experiment. Also, I understand that the new kit might have some improvements compared to the old units I have.
Wow, that’s really a crime!
You must not install all the switches and the volume pot that are part of the kit. It works with just the board and 13-pin socket.
