iOS/iPadOS MG3 TestFlight build has been removed (and is back)

Any estimate on when a new version will be pushed ? The app is completely gone, so that means no synths at all and a big part of my setup missing for a number of days. Maybe It would be possible to post even a 3.06x00001 version that is exactly the same just to keep the beta alive ?

Same issue here. I’ve come to depend on it and have no alternative.

Hate to state the obvious, but MG2 is still alive in the app store to tide you over until another MG3 (beta or otherwise) is released.

Yes of course, but I’m afraid to mess up the MG presets by switching installs like this. Also I thought it would just be a matter of days to push a new update, and as I suggested it should no be so difficult to push a dummy version just to extend the beta period over 90 days, without whipping up a new version in a hurry if it is not practical at the moment.
But you’re right, if no news have come by the end of the week I’ll revert to MG2, it just seems strange to have to do so, I’ve participated in other beta testing and have never experienced this kind of discontinuity.

As long as you don’t completely delete the app from your device, you shouldn’t lose any data. They can install over one another.

I reinstalled MG2 from the appstore and can confirm that I had no problem retaining my presets, both MG2 and MG3 presets seem to be present and my older presets are still working.

I just reinstalled MG2 and none of my MG3 presets appear! Same on both my iPhone and iPad :man_shrugging:t3:

That doesn’t mean they’re not there. When you reinstall MG3 over the top of it later, they will reappear. MG3 presets are not backward compatible.

The only caveat is to reinstall MG2 over MG3. Do not uninstall MG3 before reinstalling MG2.

I never used MG2 on my iPad, but had been relying on MG3 since I switched over from using the MacOS version (which I have a paid license for). I have been using MG3 via AU hosted by AUM, whereby I have it trigger other AU-based synths (I wasn’t using the MG3 sounds).

  1. If I install MG2 on my iPad will I be able to do the same? and what kind of performance can I expect (will it be usable on par with MG3)?
  2. Will I have to make additional in app purchases for this? and if so what would I need to pay for the functonality I’m asking about.
  3. Do we know have any timeline regarding the MG3 official IOS release? I know this has been asked a lot, but and I respect that this is likely a small (or perhaps single) development team with a lot to juggle, but it does kinda suck to just have the MG3 beta expire on IOS with no warning and no definitive sense of what to expect.

Very well said. I have the iPad MG2 it’s easy to navigate and use my other apps with no problem. The Beta tests with MG3 were great then10 days left to go. I reached out to LoFi on You Tube and was directed to the developer and got an answer saying the test is discontinued. Just to say we’re working on it but not ready. Would be helpful.

Sorry for the delays and the TestFlight time-out. It was un-intended, and a result of too much load on multiple fronts here.

Just some information about what going on with IOS:

Obviously there are a lot to MG2 installs out there on iPads and MG2 patches are “entangled” into peoples DAW projects.

Since Apple doesn’t allow two versions of a single app, the strategy was to make MG3 backward compatible, so that it would “just work”, after an update. So that the MG2 project and old MG2 tracker and patch would load in the new MG3 environment.

But that’s unfortunately difficult and maybe impossible, and something that has been consuming too much of my time recently. Im not sure I can make these two worlds collide. Having some half-working MG2 import just isn’t good enough because people depending on the old patches.

So, I think the (unfortunately) on iOS, we will have to give up on this merge and MG3 to its own app, rather than overwrite MG2. Ie., MG2 and MG3 exist side by side.

@Kendoori , Regardless of this, there will be a new IAP for the new tracker/features.

Given that I’m just looking to have MG2 be a pass through from my guitar to another hosted synth AU, is there a big difference performance wise between MG2 and MG3 on iOS?

@JamO I understand your quandary, but honestly when installing MG3 I didn’t expect my old patches to work with it. I’m totally fine with having to do new patches specifically for MG3, it doesn’t take so much time and they are so much more efficient that way too. Maybe offering a good step-by-step guide to build patches coming from MG2 would be enough to quell all possible complains.
So in your shoes I wouldn’t fret too much about this choice of overriding MG2 with MG3 and maybe not being backward compatible, MG3 is stellar and I can’t think of anyone not thinking it is a step up even if they have to rewrite their presets.

Timeline? I just installed MG2 and am going to muck with getting it to do what I had MG3 do on IOS via AUM. I’m just using MG3 as a way to trigger sounds in Soundbox.

Downgraded to MG2 on IOS (did the IAP) and I can get back to it. Promise to patient

Would love a testflight update too. I played a few shows with MG2, but MG3 works a lot better with latency and sensitivity for me!

Appreciate if you can’t release to testflight anytime soon, but would be great if you found the time somehow!

Been back using MG2 for a little bit now that TestFlight beta is out. While using MG3, I also used the Moog Moogerfooger suite of effects in MG3. However, they are not compatible in MG2 and shut down the app whenever I attempt to load one in. This is not the case with the Eventide effects I’ve also used in MG3, and they do load in MG2. I thoroughly enjoyed the increased control flexibility in MG3 with the patch bay in using external BT footswitches and 2 expression pedals. Sincerely looking forward to a separate MG3 iOS option. Thank you!

Thank you for feedback. Update will be out in a few days.

It seems like 3.0.67 was just approved and is available now on TestFlight.

The main changes is that it can load Guitar Mods (not available quite yet), and all sorts of external resources (impulse responses, neural amp models, and backing tracks) from iCloud.

I was looking for the Guitar Mods so that’s why I couldn’t find them! Will they be a separate app on Testflight? If so can they be plugins in other AUv3 hosts like AUM and Loopy Pro as well as native in MG3?
