MG3 Audio Device module

Had the briefest moment today to try out the new Audio Device module in the new .60 drop for MG3, and for whatever reason I do not seem to be able to get it to register my NUX NGS-6 (“Amp Academy”) as the alternative audio device, no matter how I configure that device’s USB behavior.

if I connect the NGS-6 as the primary audio device, it seems to work just fine, and in this mode I can select my iRig USB as the alternative audio device as expected. But it doesn’t seem to work the other way. If the iRig USB is the main/primary audio device, then when I select NUX NGS-6 from the presented list of audio devices in the Audio Device module, it just does…nothing (remains on “main audio device”).

I may be missing something obvious, of course. Any ideas for what to try here?

Might it be the sampling rate? The NUX runs on 48kHz only whereas the iRig USB supports also 44.1kHz.

Yes, I had the same exact experience. I have my Røde Go Microphones that i can use as primaries, but not as a secondary audio source. I have both my iPhone mic and my Earphones as alternatives on the list, but none of these work either. (All of these are fixed 48 kHz) So, as I went over them, I could see a correlation between non 44.1 samplerate sources and the stuff that didn’t work properly. I could however funnel my Røde through Loopback Audio 2 back into MG3, so there seems to be a samplerate issue. But as you know, correlation is not causation, so I would be interested to hear what @JamO has to add to this.

Loopback 2 funnels can be upsampled/downsampled on the fly.

This “Analog device” module is really very useful and has great performances if we compare it with equivalent plugins like “Inject” from the company “AudioMovers”, in terms of signal stability for a given sampling frequency and buffer size!
However, I also encounter problems recognizing some audio interfaces, for example my QuadCortex which has a sampling frequency of 48Ks/s, cannot be selected by MG3.
Other limitations that could be worked on for future updates:

  • the number of inputs which is limited to inputs 1 or 2 and that’s it. Not possible to select input 3 of the fireface UCX, which is the guitar input of my sound card.
  • Having the possibility to select an external mono input but also stereo, if possible…

Yes, I forgot to mention - this doesnt resample right now, and it’s also limited selecting channels. These are easy things to fix, and on my list.

Thanks everyone for the chatter. I’m happy to wait for a fix on that, as I am also really excited about the potential for the Audio Device module for myself.

Since I’m limited, at least for a while, to older hardware (Intel i5 Mac, iOS 16.x iPad), I like the idea of having a clean signal coming in to one MG3 Chain for sending to Instruments, and an already-hardware-processed guitar signal coming in to a different Chain. This saves me a few hungry amp and effect plugins for the guitar sound, and some non-trivial complexities in wiring, and still lets me mix and send both Instrument and guitar to the same downstream processors (e.g., audio looper, delay, reverb, etc.)
