Vaultnaemsae: Thank you for the reply. I wanted to be sure that a midi connection to “Complete Music Reading Trainer” app will work prior to investing in MG3 software.
Hi @Tonto, I’m not sure what your expectations are in this regard. There is probably not yet a correct, mathematically unambiguous assignment of the guitar tone played to a midi value.
As far as I know, there is still work to be done. So far it is probably not like a keyboard, where the 100 percent assignment of the key to a unique midi note value takes place immediately when playing, i.e. when the respective key is pressed.
But only @JamO can say more about the perspectives in this respect. MG3 Hex is probably the closest to what you want, as each string is processed separately.
an issue with music training software and guitar is that, unlike a piano which has just one E4 key, there are multiple (six?) fret positions which will give you that one note.
mg3 standard should work fine in terms of feeding midi to outside training software. you may need to enable the chromatic filter.
many guitarists want to practice scales, unfortunately the combo of mg3 and software like CMRT is not well suited to this task.
also some guitarists may prefer to work from tablature rather than sheet music. for this mg3hex will be required.
kimyo, anjo & Vaultnaemsae : thank you all for your feedback. Several things to consider here. It seems that the technology may not be fully mature for guitar integration with the various Music training apps.
I do think learning music (learning notes on the fretboard, reading music, rhythm notation, scales, etc) via apps has amazing potential. I use Guitar Pro for transcribing, practice. This software does not have realtime gtr midi input (yet, maybe they are looking at this). You can import a midi file, but needs to be recorded elsewhere.
I’m pretty sure GP8 does have the feature you mentioned it as not having but it requires a stepped method of input. You’d need MG3 Hex for starters. But the way MG3 MIDI output channels in MIDI 1.0 multi-channel mode are configured doesn’t work with GP8. So you’d need a MIDI channel transformation tool between MG3 and GP8 — like MIDI Fire. This is probably a little too complex a task to undertake to simply enter notes.
@Tonto: Perhaps it would be worth asking the manufacturer of GuitarPro8 Arobas Music to what extent they could integrate the possibilities of MidiGuitar3 or MG3 Hex into their program in the future.
So that you can display notes live or play along with pieces that are then additionally marked with the given notes and playing errors.
Arobas Music may also want to create a way to integrate vst and ir’s in the future, or gp8 may become a vst itself for a DAW in the future
