Any idea if/when there will be a Midi Bass 3 version in Beta?
Regarding MIDI bass, I have an alternative option for you if you want to consider itā¦and if you canā¦
buy a set of Piccolo Bass Strings like these: EXL280 Nickel Wound Piccolo | Bass Guitar Strings | D'Addario
Now your Bass will āāTrackāā as good as a Guitar when you use MIDI guitar v2 or v3 beta.
Have a good Weekend
I donāt play long scale basses anymore, so itās too bad they donāt make a short scale piccolo set. Or extra short. They would make an interesting pairing with my 27" Valiant Mini Bass.
I did this exact thing (suggested in another thread) with these strings on a Fender Mustang short scale bass and it works great. Would love to find a set of flat wounds in piccolo sizes.

Hmm. I could try them in my headless Ibanez EHB1000S, where you just clamp off the string above the nut.
EDIT: Found them in stock at Thomann.fr for 19,30 ā¬. Iāll wait until I have other stuff to buy totaling more than 75 ā¬, so I donāt have to pay 6 ā¬ for shipping. Thatād be almost 30% the cost of the strings. Amazon France has them with āfreeā Prime shipping for 26,09 ā¬. Riiiiiiight.
Can strings be too long? Iāve never experienced that. Just be careful not ending up saying:
āIāve cut the strings five times and theyāre still too short!ā
The thing I would worry about using long scale strings (round or flat wound) on a short scale is having them unwind or having the winding loosen because they were cut on the playable part of the string. Iām thinking that might not be a problem on a headless shorty when using the long scale piccolo strings because of the way the strings are clamped, rather than wound around a tuning machine. On my 27" Valiant Mini Bass, they used regular short scale strings because they hadnāt had custom length strings made for them yet. They used shrink wrap on the E string (the one cut shortest) to guard against unravelling. I ordered a custom length set of Pyramid Gold flats for it, so no worries now.
I tried using guitar strings on an old bass years ago to make it a piccolo. They were long enough for a full 34" scale and it worked just fine. A shorter length scal bass should be even easier.
Same thing when I modified an old Jazz bass to make it an 8-string. Octaves were guitar strings.
Bonus: guitar strings are WAY cheaper.
Good idea! And Iāve got about 10 spare sets of guitar strings in a drawer somewhere.
