MIDI FretLab - A first attempt at building something directly for MIDI Guitar 3

The MIDI FretLab is an ongoing project, and I feel it is probably easier to share some bite-sized updates rather than trying to cram everything into one big video. In this version of the FretLAB I have created it as a freestanding HTML app, linking it by the still experimental MG3 API, with a Lua script. It would be interesting to hear what you guys think of it?

This plug-in looks like an absolute beast - good timing with Angine de Poitrine shooting up!

Just incredible work @LoFiLeiF. I apologize for all the sleepless nights that went into this

For future references the MG API will be at MIDI Guitar API - JAM ORIGIN

Hi @JamO, I’m really excited about these new features—they open up so many new creative possibilities. :flexed_biceps:

Would it make sense to create a separate category for this in the forum, such as “Developers”?

Good call. I added a new forum category:

Thanks @JamO, it would definitely be a good idea to clearly label modules developed by third parties based on this framework—for example, with a different color or a triangle, preferably in the top-left corner (i.e., from the start of the reading direction)—to distinguish them from the standard MidiGuitar 3 structure, so that users can more easily contact the author if any issues arise.

Yes certainly, since the modules can draw anything, they can show information from its developer and link backs to the developer’s website.

@JamO, couldn’t this entire post, featuring LofiLeif’s video, be the first substantive post in the Developers category?

This is wild. Since it’s Lua will it work with Reaper? Looks incredible.

Just to be clear, this isn’t available yet, correct?

Hi @Greq

No, this version of the FretLab is created to work with MIDI Guitar 3 exclusively. It actually can’t do the things it does with any other companion than MIDI Guitar 3, because what MG3 can do is unique to that software.

And also, no. The FretLab isn’t available just yet. I’ll be sure to letting you guys know when it is. :+1:

I assume that it requires MG3 Hex, correct?

Yes

I am thinking about the per-note/string pitch-bend control we have over the Audio domain in MGHex.
