I made a discovery likely already known to MIDI Guitar users. I’m sure many of you have been using this software for years. Me however, I’m still discovering the crazy powerful features this genius bit of gear provides.
Okay. So, I decided to record a quick vid with an un-wired Strat Kit while using MIDI Guitar 2 as an audio filter through OBS(I forgot it was already set up when I hit record). And, well I was able to pickup the acoustics of that Solo Guitar Kit in this video above. It’s picking up the sounds through the default setting(MIDI Guitar also set to default) and ofc, I’m using the SWAM VST plugin.
The sum it all up, I’m not plugged into anything. Merely picking up the acoustics of a 200 Dollar Guitar Kit that I put together. It’s producing a genuine Violin tone, without any interface, cable or signal, outside of the acoustics and OBS picking those up.
I’m blown away. I don’t even need to plug my guitar in, I barely need a good mic to pick anything up.
The ones who made MG2 have revolutionized guitar playing for me. I feel like I can write anything with this thing and man, what it can do, like… wow.
alternate possible usages of mg3 tech could include teaching sight reading/singing, interval training, creating interactive art installation (ie: sing the theme to ‘close encounters’ or ‘the simpsons’ to control video) or video games which go way beyond rock band/guitar hero.
yes indeed. ‘like wow’ is probably the only true way to describe it.
When I started getting curious about MIDI, I had first thought the only way I was going to get realistic tones and everything was to buy a $1K Boss unit(the ad made it sound heavenly), like the GM-800. And get a GK-5 pickup(which I doubt even fits on an SG) for $400+ and a $100 special cable to boot.
Glad I decided to get MG instead. Easier on the wallet, but way better more versatile gear too.
With software, theres so much more you can do. Almost endless, it feels like. With way better tones than a piece of hardware can produce.
One of the main instruments I’m excited about is the Sax, and its no contest between a GM-800 and a SWAM or something similar.
Glad to be part of the MG2/3 revolution, is all I can say.
the boss/roland presets are a huge turnoff for me. not exactly 1980 casio level but not that far away.
it’s a serious shame, because their keyboard synths tend to have solid, expressive, full and rich sounds.
why does boss chose to populate their guitar synths with insipid patches?
they’ve clearly decided to let the accounting and marketing departments run the show. the engineers and musicians there don’t seem to have had any real say in the development of their recent lineup.
every now and then (usually shortly before the release of their newest guitar synth) they’ll pretend they gave the fanboys a place at the table.
either the fanboys have lost their hearing or they have chosen to ignore the immense flaws which boss continually foists upon us.
