MIDI Guitar 3 not outputting physical MIDI?

Hi all,

I’ve been using MIDI GUITAR 2 to trigger hardware synths and it does an amazing job, but with MG3 beta, I can’t get it to output MIDI to my hardware synths. Is physical MIDI not implemented in the beta version yet?

I know my wiring is correct as MG2 works fine on my old iPad.

I’ve set the audio, midi device and outputs to my sound card like I’ve done in the past.

Thanks,

James

It is not possible to select a MIDI destination in MG3. You need third party MIDI routing software to connect the virtual MIDI port that is created by MG3 to your destination hardware synths’ ports.

It’s totally possible to do it in MG2 without any third party apps.

You just set the MIDI output to be your hardware device and MIDI is sent from there.

In MG3 it doesn’t send anything.

I’m hoping it’s just because the beta version hasn’t implemented it yet.

Yep. Totally.

Well, it does send something. It sends MIDI out on a virtual port.

I’m pretty sure we’ll see it implemented eventually but it’s also very easy to acheive with a third party application until such time. Do you use a DAW or some other MIDI-capable software that can route MIDI?

I just use my iPad as an extra MIDI output source to my synths.

It’s worked great with MG2. The only thing lacking was the ability to change MIDI channels on the fly, which MG3 has implemented. I just can’t get any MIDI output like I can with MG2.

Here’s a video explaining my setup

Cool rig! I’ve seen your video before. Just a suggestion: For now, you could use AUM or a similar iPadOS audio-MIDI host to route MIDI from your iPad to your MIDI interface.
