Hi all. I am facing an issue with sustained notes being muted by notes from other string. I am using MG3 with HEX tracker.
e.g. I play D on B string then G on E string, I want to leave the D sustained, and then when I play the G again the D is muted. Anyone can reproduce this issue?
No, I can’ reproduce this. When I do this the D keeps sustaining no matter how often I play another note.
Maybe you need to increase the gain. Your D velocity with just 30 is most likely too low to ring much longer as it did.
Same here. I cannot reproduce (GP10 to drive MG3HEX)
I’m pretty sure it’s a gain issue. Also, your MIDI monitor shows the signal distribution on two different channels. How should they interact?
Check the setup your Hex interface, and/or repeat the test with a stronger pluck on the B string.
Thanks for your replies.
I tried fiddling with gains, but it still occurs for me.
I am using a piezo pickup from GraphTech with nylon strings. Each string adds some signal into other channels which might cause the issue. But I assume this is typical for piezo pickups.
Has anyone used similar setup with MG3 HEX?
Any ideas much appreciated.
I have guitars with GraphTech piezo bridges and no issue there. What interface are you using?
I am using a custom bridge with a nylon pickup from GraphTech.
You can see ti here.
But to save money, I have bought it without all the electronics and I feed the signals directly into Behringer UMC-1820

That is probably the reason. If you had a Boss/Roland interface you could set it up for GraphTech piezos. Those interfaces “polish” the raw signal coming in. Try to EQ it hard to the mid-high side on your Behringer. Set a low cut filter only allowing frequencies higher than approx. 800-1000Hz. This might improve things.
Edit: Do you mean you don’t have the Hexpander and the Acousti-Phonic boards with it? That will be difficult to achieve good results. You are missing the pre-amps > try to increase gain on your mixer.
aside from the gain, i think the hexpander also does some filtering.
i don’t think any piezo system will work without an onboard preamp.
an option for your situation is to try the ubertar pickup. i got one for bass, this is back before mg3hex was a glimmer in jamo’s eye, and it was too loud, causing unacceptable crosstalk.
now that hex is here, the ubertars should work quite well, although i haven’t reinstalled them to test.
Thanks guys for inspiration.
So far I have managed to get the tracking done, but always with compromises.
It looks like the time has come to upgrade the pickup
