Pitch shifting / Chord Shifter

Just to give you some idea what is possible with the new audio pitch modules. This is a simple example of an open E tuning blending to a open G and increase the G to an A via the whammy. All with just one expression pedal.

that’s a great approach, an audio blend with whammy on top works well for relatively quick transitions.

but i would still prefer a midi blend option with individual string control. something more along the lines of a virtual pedal steel.

i’ve set things up using string filters and multiple whammy’s, but that takes up all three chains.

I see what you mean. I also did a “pedal steel guitar” setup and yes, all three chains are needed and a fourth and/or fifth one is missing.
I was just buffeld by the quality of the audio pitch shift modules.
I’m sure that a midi chord-blend-bend solution could be realized. In the meantime you might want to test the 15-day free trial of FluidChords, although it’s not exactly what you have in mind:

I didnt put much thought into this, but what if we had a new module Chord Shift, which would look similar to String Tuning, but where:

  • the two columns define the two chords by their semitone offsets. For example left column is (-2,-2,-1,0,0,-2), right column is (+3,0,0,0,+2,+3).
  • Instead of a switch at the bottom a knob dial can morph smoothly from one chord to the other.
  • Perhaps the two chords can morph through (0,0,0,0,0,0) in the middle position, so there is a three-way morph, with middle position being neutral.
  • Of course “neutral” here is given by any other cascaded Transposer modules.

thanks for showing me fluid chords, it looks like a very useful tool.

i’ll mess around with it. it might not like midi multichannel though.

but i can definitely see using it outside of mg3, with keyboard controlled synths. in fact i may do that first.

That’s a good idea! The “middle position” then should be a bigger range e.g button percentage:
0-45 incline / 46-55 stay at 50% / 56-100 incline

this would truly be an ideal solution.

plus it will allow me to use the phrase ‘behold the awesome power of the three-way morph’, which is something one doesn’t hear all that often.

Gotcha! I’ll try this tonight and see lets where it goes.

@JamO Brilliant! Thanks for the quick actions Ole!! Maybe the “window” for the middle position can be enlarged a bit further, or I modify the pedal hardware-wise with a “break” point at the middle position.

@Dutti67 Connect a MUX Modulator to it, and run two pedals to that and you have complete control of the the domains individually, but also a natural “breakpoint” in the middle.

Good advice, thank you!

It’s so easy to forget that you can do things like this with modulators…Thanks for the reminder.
