Finally (if I do this right) I can have a super light guitar on my desk and be doing MIDI guitar in the space of grabbing the guitar and 1 click to open a project file.
At three pounds, it’s so light I could see mounting this at the end of a mic boom and float it in front of the desk.
For now as I await this, personally I like the Tune-O-Matic-style bridge. My Strat clone from Goodwill has a bridge area that’s terror to the flesh on my right hand LOL
BUT, that guitar also has an internal place where the headphone amp lives and I hope the next project is a really clever/frugal wireless system one way or another.
If anyone is into projects like this, with the assist of Jamo let’s make better stuff than we could buy!
it’s not rock and roll unless your hands are bleeding.
i like the placement of the tuners on your new guitar. i have a similar instrument, the donner hush x and although it is very good about staying in tune i have to hold it upside down to tune it.
That’s a 22” inch scale (555mm, so it’s like a Squire Mini Strat). They have these in regular 25.5” Strat scale, for the same price, and piezo, and it seems like several other offers. Crazy, all for around $150. Imo, the problem with this design is ergonomics, where in some ways it’s very ergo, while in others not at all; such as right hand rest, which doesn’t even have wrist support really. But for the money, who cares. Also, those tuners may require an allen wrench, while something like a Strandberg can be easily hand tuned. This particular model looks a little like a Lapaxe, which costs around $800 (or did), but is the same scale. Lapaxes have been around for a while. also there’s the Lapstick, which is even a smaller scale, also $$$. But this 22” scale is 3lbs and around 25” total length, which is the whole point. Personally, I’d rather take the neck off something to travel with it (very easy) and suffer the added weight if I can get around 5 lbs +. I used to think taking a neck off will wear out the bond (screw holes). Not true at all with maple or other hardwoods. Even if it did, you then just up the screw size, or put in inserts with a drill press (not needed). Travel guitars
I just took delivery and… the build quality seems decent and I’m astonished those tuners are easy to turn! They didn’t look it at first. I don’t know how one changes strings but that’s one reason I’m happy without a whammy bar is, the strings would be expected to last longer.
Pros:
build quality is admirable;
in the event wireless is installed there is already a battery compartment and power switch so that’s most of the luthier done for you
Cons:
The guitar won’t output signal without 9V battery. Or I’d tell ya how it triggers M2G.
To that end, we are expecting an ice storm starting in an hour, so I’m going to take a walk and see if they sell 9vs under $10 at this crazy store across the street
I have a GK3 pickup on a Strandberg Boden. Just got it working with a GP10 and the MG3 hex VST. A really superb combination, the pieces all work together really well. I have another GK3 that I will install on a HILS headless guitar, now that I have a really good reason to do so.
Kiesel Z26 walnut/spalt maple top headless with GK-5 pickup into separate-strings.co.uk breakout cable into Boss GKC-DA converter into audio interface. Best MIDI guitar controller I have ever used. Walnut gives a pure tone which translates into a nice fundamental for MG3 hex. I also have a headstock version as a SCB6.
