Hey folks,
I have been using MG3, 3.0.61 on Win 11, I9 processor, 32 gigs ram, MiniForums PC. Focusrite 2i2.
It works well as stand-alone, and relatively well as plugin with Cakewalk Sonar for recording synth as audio file. I have still not figured out how to get it to record midi (even after investigating) But That is a separate issue from this. (I suspect that is on the Sonar side)
Periodically a message pops up stating my audio interface or CPU can’t keep up, causing bad tracking. To be clear I have tried 256,128, 64, and even 32 buffer.. The message persists regardless of the interface setting and the MG3 setting. I looked at the log and I see constant underrun and overrun messages regardless of the buffer setting. Can I assume I have set something incorrectly? Or perhaps there is an issue with the interface? FYI the 2i2 works perfectly for audio recording. I have updated the Focusrite driver. I believe the PC specs should be more than sufficient to handle this?
Thx in advance for any help

This happens when MG doesn’t have CPU time to process a buffer. Likely some DPC latency somewhere in the system (drivers or other software). But the good news is that a missing audio buffer once in a while really isn’t noticeable in tracking in any way, so in most cases its really just an annoying message, which has been removed (and replaced with a small icon) in the next update within a few days.
mg3 should be more than happy with an i9 and 32 gigs of ram. the problem is that windows has become so massive that it eats up a third or more of your processing power before getting around to loading your programs.
if you’re happy with your sample rate/latency and you’re not experiencing crackles and glitches then it’s probably not worth looking further. but if you care to the key things to do are 1) disable cpu throttling and 2) turn off wifi when using audio apps.
this addresses the latter:
also running latencymon can help find troublesome settings.
Thx much. It tracks beautifully set at 64. Occasional crackling sounds on certain plugins. But the computer usage meter in the upper right hand corner never seems to go too high. I am looking forward to updates for mg3.
I know it sounds strange, and of course your CPU is more than capable, even if running a bunch other the stuff.
The problem is that MG needs to get attention from the OS every half millisecond or so. Otherwise it cannot properly analyse every small audio buffer for tracking. But maybe a WIFI driver (anything completely unrelated) is hogging a millisecond somewhere and not allowing the OS to shift attention over to MG.
