Transposer module for audio signal

I was very happy to hear that the Transposer module now works on audio signal in plugin mode, and my own experiments thus far have been very encouraging. There is just something about the sound of my SoloEtte’s quirky pickup going in to MG3’s Transposer set up as octave down, that creates the most natural “bass guitar” like sound (before sending to any amp sim) I’ve yet gotten out of any of my instruments. Thank you @JamO for that one in particular!

As I dig in to it a little more, I’m learning some useful things about using Transposer for audio. Since there’s not a “wet/dry” setting on the module itself, I use two Chains when I want to blend the pitch-shifted signal, which works just fine, but you can hear the latency difference between a fully dry chain sounding alongside a Transposer-shifted chain. But…I (accidentally) discovered that I can put another Transposer on the dry chain, active but not shifting anything, that eliminates that latency difference (presumably because both audio chains are now being processed). The latency isn’t enough for me to notice when playing, but it is enough to notice when simultaneous dry/processed chains sound together. Anyway, that’s useful, and sounds great.

And it was another beta tester here, I think, who clued me in to the idea of using the Transposer to shift a tiny amount to achieve a “detune” effect. For a “12-string sound” patch I set up the dry signal to shift 3 cents sharp on chain 1, and the octave up signal on chain 2 with that chain’s mixer volume down about 2-3dB, and it sounds pretty compelling to me.

I’ve got a lot more T&E to do, but so far, as a general purpose polyphonic shifter, I’m pretty pleased with the MG3 Transposer module. The sweet intervals like octaves, fifths, and fourths, seem very solid compared with other hardware and software shifters I’ve come across, but I can hear it struggle with some of the really difficult intervals that are hard even for a monophonic shifter to handle.

Certainly when I first ran across MIDI Guitar (this would have been MG2, back in 2018 or so) I’d never have guessed that I’d be actively using it to provide a “bass sound”, a “12-string sound”, a “whammy sound”, and a variety of “soundscaping sounds” for guitar audio, just because it sounds that good.

I agree, the transpose down sound creates a better bass guitar sound than the transpose down with models on my Antares AGT-1. I layer it with some midi bass sounds to get a decent emulation on my live gigs.
