Hello, newbie here. I’m checking out Midi Guitar and was wondering if anyone has experience of taking the midi from Midi Guitar and then using the midi in Waves Harmonizer. Harmonizer takes the midi input from each chord and then uses it to build vocal harmonies. Typically the midi data comes from a keyboard. But why not guitar? Before I purchase Midi Guitar, I would love to know if this is possible and if anyone else has tried to do this.
I just downloaded the demo version of Waves Harmonizer and as far as I can judge it it works fine!
You on your side can download the MG2 trial version and check it out yourself.
That’s great! But is there a trial version of MG2 that works on a mac and sends midi out? I have been assuming that I would have to purchase a version of MG that works in a DAW on a mac, not iOS.
Thanks for your help!
Yes there is a trial version with Midi output.
https://www.jamorigin.com/download/
It contains the standalone app and a plugin for use within a host.
Found it! Thanks!! But now my head is exploding at how to set this up in Logic. I need to create a way to get the midi signal from MG3 to Waves to determine the chord for the harmonies. But I also a vocal signal to waves to create the actual harmonies. Any guidance?
Thanks!!!
Mark
First: Create an audio track with your guitar input. Insert MG3 into that track (patch “MIDI Guitar Mini”). Make sure the output for Logic/Garageband is selected in the “MIDI Guitar Out” field.
Second: Create an audio track with your microphone as input.
Third: Create a new instrument track with the Waves Harmony AU plugin (this is now receiving the MIDI data from MG3).
Enable monitor and record on all three tracks that you always “hear” what is going on also if the track is not selected.
Fourth: In the Waves Harmony plugin you need to sidechain the microphone track (see picture / red marker / top right corner) in order to have the vocal input inside the plugin.
If you now pick a chord and sing into the mic the harmonies are created according the plugin settings.
Have fun!
Thank you so much! That did it! The learning curve has been so frustrating. Thank you for helping me out!
OK. I got things working last night and purchased both MG3 and Waves Harmonizer. However, now I can’t seem to get the sidechain option to appear. Any ideas?
I believe only effects instantiated as “MIDI-controlled effects” in Logic Pro 11/MainStage 3 make the sidechain input option available. Could it be that you instantiated the Waves Harmonizer as an audio effect?
This statement is correct, sorry I forgot to mention!
