Use real electric guitar to control NI Session Guitarist Picked Acoustic

Hi

May sound a little absurd, but is it possible to play my electric guitar and control NI Session Guitarist Picked Acoustic in kontakt using the MIDI Guitar 2 plugin instead of a midi keyboard?

The reason being I always **** up my picking, so this would enable me to fix errors and timing issues.

It doeasn’t sound absurd at all. The thing is, we would all do ourselves a favor if we start looking at the package “our guitar+MIDI Guitar 2/3” as a MIDI controller alongside any other MIDI controller. And as soon as we do, we quickly realize that there are no better controllers to input virtual guitars with than that particular combo.

Now, for the particular case of playing virtual guitar realistically you should really move up to MIDI Guitar 3. The MPE capabilities is what makes the small polyphonic bends and vibrato translate into MIDI. But if you alreay have MG2, you can just get MG3 on the beta testing page in the DOWNLOADS section for free right away.

Now to your question: yes, it is very possible. I have made two videos on using MG3 with virtual guitars of different kinds where I go into what needs to be done for some of them to work. And if you are thinking of using the NI session picked acoustic the question is, do you intend to use it with the picking/strumming patterns (player) or do you intend to use it as a virtual instrument to play as any other guitar (the melody nki).

If you are interested in setting up with the Melody NKI you’ll find a strategy in this video (I am using the Electric Mint, Electric Sunburst and Electric Vintage but the setting up should be the same as we are talking about the NI session series.)

Yes the plan is absolutely to use the melody NKI.
This is great news, I will watch your videos tomorrow and am looking forward to seeing them.
I currently don’t have Midi Guitar as I wanted to be certain it would work before acquiring it …will I need to buy 2 to make 3 work??

If you buy MG2 you will also be able to use the MG3 beta without the trial timeout interruptions. But you can also use MG3 in trial mode. From the beta page.
