Well … ZEBRA3 is here! Zebra 3 | u-he
For owners of Zebra2 before the Legacy collection bundle a very small upgrade path, for 1200 + sounds!
MPE, a renewed synthesis (unfortunately not compatible with Zebra 2 - which remain on sale) and dozen of options.
After I gave it a run with Keyboards I am impressed. Soon will be the time to use MG3 with it. You can download the demo version and play with it.
Now that I see the list price for Zebra 3 (299 €), I’m happy that I bought a license during the beta phase for about 40% off. I did not have a Zebra 2 license, so I don’t know what the upgrade price was/is. I still don’t know much about Zebra 3, but I had Diva, Hive and Repro licenses, and all 3 of those synths are quite good, so I have high hopes for Zebra.
It was 30 Euros ![]()
Zebra 3 it’s a real ‘Beast’. Sound generation completely overhauled.
Enjoy!
Well, have some tries with MG3 I am very satisfied as the new sound palette has enlarged from the previous Zebra and the MPE Addition means better control with MG3!
However, you have to be aware that some presets are very demanding as Uhe explains in a dedicated video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he33jQkjTaQ
So do not worry and find the work around that goes well with your system. Mine, an ‘old’ 2022 base Mac Studio sometimes coughs on some presets (Synth and Pads). Multi-Thread is the problem and it also depends on the host (Mine is Live 12). I use MG3 inside Live 12 so your experience might be different when using MG3 standalone. The patch ‘Haunted Air’ for me is the CPU Killer.
a lot of my favorite vst synths have patches which falter under load.
someday i’ll get around to setting up a host machine for those via something like audiogridder. i have a couple of older but capable systems just sitting around gathering dust, might as well put them to use.
being able to fully explore all the presets and spin all the relevant knobs would be nice.
i like u-he. their website is legible. there’s no ‘subscribe to our cloud’ nonsense. and, most importantly, their products sound great.
Gave it a spin, I get the excitement but it’s not very usable for the music I play.
I will however buy Diva when it goes on sale next time.
Everyone has it’s own synth. Mine is Repro-5. Zebra 2 was the first VST I bought several years ago. Zebra 3 has great sounds and I have started exploring it. I like analog like so Repro-5 is my to go for first try pads.
