A new version 3.0.61 is available (download link above) with a fix for this issue.

I believe it’s a midi congestion/overflow issue that is most likely on Apples side, but I was able to workaround by making MG send MIDI messages only when a state (such as CC74) changes to reduce the amount of MIDI traffic.

The funny thing is the we have three chains, maybe one for MIDI and two for audio.
We have a mixer on the master module(?)
If I set all faders to zero including master fader, I still hear my GM800.
So the sound bypasses any audio unit in MG3.
I can prevent the GM800 from sending any sound through USB of course if I don’t use those sound.

You need to lower the patch volume of the GM-800 to zero (e.g. with a volume pedal connected), or as @Vaultnaemsae suggested in a different thread, make an extra “MG3Hex patch” with no synth sounds selected.

Addendum: I just want to be clear that I was indicating to create a preset in the hardware device itself, not in MG3. Hope there wasn’t any confusion.

Yes, so the GP/GM/SY patches will have its own internal things going on and this runs in parallel and never arrives at the Mac/PC, so it can’t be disabled from any software.

Yesterday night I had the pleasure , (thanks @Vaultnaemsae) to use the MIDI OUT to a specfic device and in the DAW. What a surprise! It worked very well, also with my ancient Roland JV1010. I need to test more but the general idea is that MG3 can run standalone, sparing the complex multi-audio with MG3HEX when used in a DAW. So MG3HEX does its Magic and DAW works. Well done Ole!

I’d had this idea in my head that once the MIDI Output module’s port became selectable, I would be able to route MG3 Hex-generated MIDI data back to the SY-1000 and basically use it “as is” with superior pitch-to-MIDI conversion. I’d then set be able to set any synth/DAW’s receive port as “SY-1000 DAW CTRL” and things could be quite tidy since the SY-1000 allows you to resend MIDI received over USB back out over USB or DIN (MIDI thru). You all know how bad the SY’s pitch-to-MIDI processing is…

It actually seems to work so far, but, as I’m using the SY-1000’s DIN MIDI I/O to interact with wireless MIDI controllers, which then get funneled through to the MG3 MIDI patchbay, I’m concerned that I’ll create a MIDI loop with all the control data from the connected expression pedals, breath controller, etc. doubling back on the USB MIDI thru port. Maybe additional RTL too?

It’s probably wiser to keep the routing as simple as possible:
Guitar/SY-1000 → [Computer/MG3 → DAW or Synth App] → Audio interface/speakers.

All these possibilities activate the imagination!

BTW, @JamO – a litttle bug, maybe… (Ver. 3.0.61)

Playing above the 24th fret on the first string continues to track, but the pitch drops by 1 octave. My 26-fret guitar gave me a little suprise up high! Most guitars have no more than 24 frets so I’m aware this is a fringe case. Regardless, I’m just mentioning it just in case it’s unintentional. :slight_smile:

26 frets! Is that possible? Which brand?

It’s a custom guitar and the fret thing started as a joke but turned into reality.

I had Bill DeLap (best known for the extraordinary guitars he built for Allan Holdsworth) build a custom guitar for me. It took over five years to be completed but that’s another story.

So, in around 2013, when Bill showed me his instrument portfolio, the guitar we benchmarked looked alot like the DeLap guitar that Alex Machacek used before he became a Strandberg endorsee. That guitar had 25 frets – I never asked why.

So, when I half jokingly asked Bill to make mine 26 frets (like a North Korean flagpole) I didn’t really think he’d be onboard…but he was! And that’s how the guitar got 26 frets.

It doesn’t have any fretboard inlay markers so, if you’ve seen it in any of my YouTube videos you probably didn’t even notice the range. It’s an incredible guitar and Bill told me he built a near duplicate of it for a guy in Japan…I’ve never seen the twin though.

Except the frettles walnut bass (the “frets” are just inlays) and the maple ST they are all gone…but I have plenty of nice tone wood on stock!

i will seriously consider this. given the quality of your work, and the fact that i’m a hack, the hex/classical nylon/true temperament beast i’ve been designing clearly should be built in your shop instead of mine.
