I am using cubase elements 14 on a Mac. i followed the cubase instruction video and nothing is happening. As the video shows, i first plugged my guitar into my ur12 interface (tried both inputs) and made sure I could hear my guitar. As well, i loaded an instrument into a track and was able to hear a synth i loaded while playing my keyboard. this tells me that my interface is working as it should.
my cubase screen matches the video… routing to plugins→midi guitar3. etc,.. but no signal showing on the instrument track. please help
Assuming you want to play a VST synth using your guitar do the following:
Add an audio track with your applicable input and switch on monitoring (loudspeaker symbol). You must have a input signal and hear your guitar.
Insert MG3 into that audio track. Under the audio device settings (in MG3) choose “Input from DAW / Ask DAW to give it 1 input channel” under “Input Device” and “Output to DAW” under “Output Device”. Select the “MIDI Guitar Mini” patch. Now you will not hear your guitar anymore but see MG3 reacting on the input.
Insert an instrument track containing your VST plugin. Choose the track with MG3 as MIDI input source. Enable monitoring on the instrument track. Now you will hear your synth.
hi. i see a potential issue. I don’t see INPUT FROM DAW. i see IMAC MICROPHONE, STEINBERG UR12, AGGREGATE DEVICE. and below that , NO INPUT,CHANNEL 1 DEFAULT,CHANNEL2 ( i have highlighted the highlighted selections in the audio window.
i did a chatGPT on this (“ do not see input from daw in the audio section in MG3” the response t looks like what i;ve done. you can take a peek at chat yourself (i can paste the response here if you wish)).. Does your process mirror the video on site (it’s about 2 minutes long).
It should also work when you select your UR12 and channel 1. It is working on my Mac, also in Cubase 14 Elements. Strange is that you don’t see the “input from DAW” option!
ok. maybe a little step forward. I changed the Input to channel 2, the same channel my guitar is plugged into my ur12 . Now in the MIDI OUTPUT, i now see “sending midi out to track”. it’s strobing, but maybe that’s ok.. HOWEVER, i still don’t see the signal in the project window. i even tried RECORD ARMing each track separately and then arming both. same issue. i will list my steps here for reference. If may have to ask for a refund.. (ps. i contacted cakewalk and they don’t know the software but told me to create a blank midi track with no instrument to see if midi is coming in that didn’t show midi) .
All this to say, mg3 says it outputting midi but cubase is not registering anything, The MPGvst is not showing INPUT FROM DAW.. that’s the main issue. I hope to have a solution quickly if there is one so i can give back the software within the return period… i do have a midi guitar, but i prefer my 1965 Guild Starfire 3 lol… it would be nice to use it with this software…
if we are out of ideas, i can load my cubase 12 program and try it there…. i can do this tomorrow and reply with the outcome. maybe its a cubase 14 issue.
******** i just went back and MONITOR my instrument track which is not in the screen prints. same result. BTW, when i’m recording.. do i record enable just the instrument track ?
yes, its in the first input (the one with D-PRE using the 3 pin adapter).. i also have tried channel 2 (hi-Z). as well my DIRECT MONITOR is not engaged.. i think i saw this in ChatGPT
and the MG3 window is strobing when i hit a note (also showing on guitar icon at left)
yes it does. hmmm.. as i said, if we are all stuck, i can try this in cubase 12. and maybe Steinberg can help. i could send them the screenshots as they are not familiar with this plugin
i’ve been using cubase since cubase 4 i think.. always have an issue with cubase… i;m on a first name basis with the canadian tech guy, lol….
UNLESS my cubase is corrupt.. or there is some parameter which has been set by me in the past…. one of my senior moments (i’m 73.. i don’t know why i use cubase.. at my age i should just be playing a casio organ lol lol)
maybe i should ask Hanz Zimmer. i think he still uses it for his scoring
