Looking forward to MG3. Hopefully we Windows users won’t have to wait too long. @LoFiLeiF Will lowest note priority be an option in monophonic mode this time around? Fingers crossed
Lowest note priority in Mono mode? Hmm. I am not familiar with this request from before. Would you care to expand on the context of usage? You want the lowest note of any chord (in Monomode) to sound rather than latest or what?
And a caveat; I have no part in any functions actual implementation. I happily discuss ideas and stuff, but whether or not these will be part of any finished version is way beyond my role to decide here.
FYI: lowest note is typically a MIDI machine function, it is not a core thing. there are scripts for MG2 that do this allready
Thanks, @LoFiLeiF
The goal is, in a live context, to split the MG output, and feed the lowest note into a mono bass (soft)synth and the full chord into a polyphonic (soft)synth. Right now, working with MG2 VST in Bitwig, I’m outputting all note info polyphonically into a Bitwig grid device that I created to detect the lowest note then rout that mono/lowest note and the poly/full stream in parallel to their respective (soft)synth tracks/VSTs. It’s a decent workaround, so I haven’t felt the need to make a feature request. But life would be easier if MG3 could do the heavy lifting and cut the middleman.
So MG3 should detect and separate the “Lowest note” in whatever chord or context? Also from any chord, for instance, in the highest register? It isn’t at all related to the actual pitch, but only relative to every other pitch ringing. Should any single note also be this Lowest note?
Some of those MIDI Machines don’t seem ready for prime time, for whatever reason. Also, then I’d have to run two instances of MG, one mono (w/ MIDI Machine) and one poly. Since we’re getting a new version-- with layers-- what if I had one layer poly and one layer mono w/ lowest note priority (be it via core setting or MIDI Machine, as long as it actually works). I guess that would be the most elegant solution for my purposes.
Yes, for my purposes, it can be in any range and even if only one note is playing. Always and simply the lowest note at any given time.
Yes, I forgot about this one, but just added something like that as a module in MG3
“Auto Bass” - is that a good name?
Woohoo! Sounds promising Not a bad name, although, at least in my work flow, it’s not exclusively for bass parts. When I move up into the higher registers, I use that lowest note as a righteous drone source
Will the note range of MG3 be the same, or can we expect support for extended range guitars?
The first MG3 beta will probably not be extended but I’m not sure where we will land:
The work on lower guitar tunings coincide with MIDI Bass 2 and it’s really a daunting endeavour. It’s looking good for MIDI Bass 2 (which goes down to E1), but I’m still not sure how much of this MB2 behaviour can be adapted by MG3.
I’m also interested in this information. Not a customer yet. Knowing more about upgrade policy might be an incentive. I read under a YT vid that the upgrade to Midi Guitar 3 from 2 would be free, but can’t find this information anymore. Can you confirm?
Yes, its a free update for the PC/Mac plugin version.
MG2 newbie here. Just discovered MG2 yesterday and after a couple hours with the demo, I had to buy it.
Been using it as AU in LPX so far and I do a lot of recording with real amps and hardware as well as several amp sim suites as needed. Since I do a lot of DI re-amping anyways, bussing out a DI track to an aux MG2 track feels natural and easy.
So yesterday afternoon I played guitar for perhaps 4 hours while feeding MG2’s MIDI to a ton of synths. I was so sore by time I went to bed but my mind was racing with the possibilities. That’s a good day for someone who’s been playing for nearly 40 years and who has been doing music as his main job for over 25 years! That kind of excitement and energy is just as cool revitalizing now as it’s ever been.
Can’t wait for MG3!
Such a great tool.
I just bought MIDI Guitar 2 to access MIDI Guitar 3. Unfortunately, I’m concerned about compatibility. Will it run on my Mid-2012 MacBook Pro running High Sierra? It’s the only computer I have besides my trusty Windows 10 laptop, which can’t upgrade to Windows 11. I’m desperate to use MIDI Guitar 3! I don’t mind a complex setup if necessary. I’ve been waiting since music school (2015) for this software, and I don’t want outdated hardware to hold me back.
I hope this version will be released for android. I have the iRig UA working with AmpliTube UA and it works really very well with no latency at all.
i don’t know about the mac, but mg2 runs well on my older win10 machine. it barely ticks the processor.
i think your worries about outdated hardware may be overblown.
your audio interface is more likely to be a limiting factor. an older system will probably limit the number of synths you can run simultaneously.
but mg2 itself requires very few resources. i anticipate that mg3 will be similar.
MG2 runs ok on a similar specs machine on my side. Standalone and under Live 10.
When is the beta testing going to be out? Is it about love and the number 14?
Hi all.
A new version of Jamosapien Midi guitar 3, great.
Version 2 is not perfect but it’s good so any improvement will be welcomed in terms of latency, pitch bends etc.
Does anybody know in the demo video what instrument is in the mouth of the male ?
Regards
Jake
